Hardware-Informationen auslesen unter Linux ist mit I-Nex möglich. Mit diesem Tool (es erinnert stark an CPU-Z) könnt Ihr erfahren, welche CPU, GPU, Mainboard, Arbeitsspeicher, usw. usf. verbaut sind. Für die Installation das Terminal aufrufen und diese Befehle ausfürehn (Anleitung):

Motorola Droid Ultra specs surface on Motorola website! but are they prank or promo?

Motorola which has been in hibernation sprung up a surprise today, the website of the firm today released the specs of Droid Ultra.  However if you look closely at the specs you will notice that they are almost, nay 100 % identical to the Motorola's Razr M smart phone.  

Is this a promotional strategy or just a poke.  This only Motorola can answer as of now.  The website, though has a small window on the right hand side which says  “think thin” and that the Droid Ultra will be available in “a bunch of glossy colors.”   It further adds that the phone will have a  DuPont Kevlar body and says that “you can be even thinner and still be tough as steel.”

From this we can make out that it will be a slim, DuPont Kevlar bodied Android smart phone which will be available in as many colours.

First Firefox run phone comes to the market, 'ZTE Open' to sell for $90.00 (Rs.5400.00)

The worlds Firefox operating system run smart phone is here and cheap too. Announced in February during the MWC 2013, the Firefox run phone has arrived on board ZTE's latest offering the ZTE Open.  The phone looks rather nice and crisp from the above images but let us see what went into it.

The ZTE Open is powered by a Cortex A5 processor clocking at 1GHz and runs on 512MB of RAM with a internal memory of 2GB. It comes with a 3.5-inch display (320 x 480 pixels resolution). It has only a single camera on the rear which is 3.15MP.

But what makes ZTE Open special other then the specs.  Well, it is the first smart phone in the world to run its Apps and Games entirely on HTML5.  Yes Firefox OS uses HTML5 based Apps and  Games, which will be available to users at Firefox Marketplace.  The ZTE Open comes with Facebook and Twitter, Nokia’s HERE maps service, Box cloud storage,and chartbuster games  from EA Mobile and Disney Mobile Games.

Now about the Firefox Marketplace.  The Apps featuring on the Firefox Marketplace will entirely run on HTML5.  Some of the games that will feature there are AccuWeather, Airbnb, Pulse News, SoundCloud, SporTV, Terra and Time Out.  That is not all, the beauty of Apps and Games running on HTML5 means that Web developers can also turn a website into an HTML5 app through Mozilla's development kit. 

The Firefox OS also supports video calling over Web RTC, a browser-based technology that's also available on the Android Firefox Aurora app. 

This is a very good, cheap and robust phone.  The ideal launchpad for Firefox OS.   I do think that FireFox OS will give Android and iOS some serious competition in future and by the looks of it, this may be the baby step in that direction.

Nokia 301 with 3G available in India for Rs.5099.00 and above on online portals

Just yesterday I had written a article about Nokia Asha 210 being available in India for pre-order for Rs.4499.00 and my only grouse with it was that it did not support 3G network.  It seems the Nokia guys read my post and today launched the 3G enabled Nokia 301.

Unlike Asha 210 which has QWERTY keypad, the Nokia 301 comes in a candybar standard design.  It has a 2.4 inch 240 x 320 pixels (~167 ppi pixel density) TFT display supporting 256K colours.  

It comes with single and dual SIM capabilities, the dual SIM one is listed on Yebhi.com at Rs.5099.00.  The Nokia 301 runs on the no frills S40 platform.  It has a 3.2MP "smart camera" which gives you all kinds of editing and sharing options.  The 301 also lets you take your own picture with the rear camera with voice command.  Its 5-in-1 camera app lets you choose and apply one one of five camera effects to their images. Alas it doesn't have a front camera so video calling will be pretty difficult.

The dual SIM model has a EasySwap feature which allows you to switch the SIM cards without turning the phone off.  The phone has a internal memory of 256MB which I think is pretty less in this day and age of GBs.  The phone will run on 64MB RAM which is pretty good.  The phone supports external memory via MicroSD card slot for upto 32GB.

The external dimensions of the phone are 4.49 x 1.97 x 0.49 inches and the weight  is 102 g (3.60 oz), quite neat for a budget phone. The phone is powered by a 1110 mAh battery (BL-4U) with stand by time of upto up to 888 hours on 2G and  upto 936 hours on 3G (surprise).  It gives a talktime of 20 hours on 2G network while talking on 3G network can last upto 6 hours.

Connectivity wise it has EDGE, 3G and bluetooth support with a strong impetus on social networking.  Nokia 301 allows you to stream YouTube videos and Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp quite easily.  It also has a lite version of Mail for Exchange will allow users to check mails and sync calendars too. 

My only surprise is the price for colours.  Yebhi.com as mentioned above list the Nokia 301 Blue at Rs.5099.00 with EMI facility and 4 to 7 days delivery.  While another portal Flipkart posts the price as Rs.5590.00 for Black and Cyan models.  You can visit the Flipkart page here, it gives cash on delivery and EMI options and delivery within 7 to 9 days.  

Facebook button equipped Nokia Asha 210 available for pre order now at Rs.4499.00

Asha 210, the budget smart phone from Nokia featuring a dedicated Facebook button is now available for pre-order on online  portal Flipkart.com for Rs.4499.00. 

The Asha 210 is a QWERTY keyboard phone and is available in both single and dual SIM models.  The one on sale at Flipkart is a dual SIM one with SIM swapping on-the-go. Though it is a budget phone it also has full smart phone features a normal user would yearn for.

Nokia Asha comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen and has 64MB of on-board memory. The storage can be expanded to 32GB by using a microSD card.  Asha 210 comes with only a rear 2MP camera with 1600x1200 pixels and can shoot videos in QCIF@10fps. You can edit and share pictures on Asha 210 using native Nokia Slam feature.  The Nokia Slam  feature uses bluetooth without pairing to let you transfer videos, files and other stuff in addition to the images.  Another feature of Asha 210 is that you can shoot pictures even if the keypad is locked with a dedicated hard key for the same.  

Connectivity wise the Nokia Asha 201 comes bluetooth and wi-fi.  It is also equipped with a feature called Nokia Nearby which gives you the details of  restaurants, shops and ATM machines in your vicinity.

Though a basic budget phone it pack mean rugged Nokia features and can be seen as a best buy for those who always want to remain in touch with their friends and colleagues.  IT comes in  yellow, cyan, black, magenta and white colours.  My only grouse is that Nokia did not pack 3G with this phone.

Get a GamePop Mini free with GamePop 1 year subscription; Android based gaming console from BlueStacks

I had reported about GamePop by BlueStacks a Indian run startup, which will now support iOS Apps and Games.   Well the company is not resting on its laurels.  Facing the heat from Ouya, which incidentally was declared a sold out just moments after it went for sale, GamePop makers have announce a gaming console of the size of a packet of gum to be given free with 1 year subscription of the GamePop console.  

The GamePop console itself is free if a buyer takes a 1 year subscription for $6.99 (Rs.420.00) a month upto July 1.  So as a buyer you will get GamePop and GamePop Mini if you go for the yearly subscription offer from BlueStacks within next two days.  

Though not much is known about the hardware and specs of GamePop Mini it is said to have the pretty much same capabilities as GamePop sans some ports and accessibility options.

Windows Phone HTC 8XT and Samsung Ativ S Neo coming to Sprint this summer with unlimited LTE access

Good news for US citizens, get a new phone and unlimited LTE access as a added bonus.  Sprint has come out with a truly superb plan aptly called the Truly Unlimited Plan.    Here is a image as to how it works out :

Add to that the latest Samsung Ativ S Neo and HTC 8XT will be available under this plan.  The plan will be offered in select US regions and promises unlimited 4G LTE data use with no overage charges.  

About the phones :

HTC 8XT :  

HTC 8XT is the latest Windows Phone 8 offering from HTC.  It will have a 4.3 inch 720p (not confirmed yet by HTC) 800 x 480 pixel display.  It will be powered by 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal memory and a microSD expansion slot.  The rear shooter will be 8MP one and the front one will be a 1.6MP affair.  

The 8XT will have all the necessary connectivity options like Wifi, LTE, bluetooth etc.   The HTC 8XT will be powered by  1800 mAh battery which seems to be on a lower side considering this medium specced phone.  The best part of HTC is its front speakers boom sound.

2. Samsung Ativ S Neo 

Nothing is known about the specs of Ativ S Neo other than it is will upgrade of  the earlier ATIV S.  It will  have a larger 4.8-inch display of 720p resolution (not confirmed), a dual-core 1.4 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 2000 mAh battery. It will have a 1.9MP front camera with something called "Manga Camera" and "Beauty Shot"  The rear camera will be 8MP one with LED flash.

As the HTC 8XT the Ativ S Neo will also have the usual connectivity solutions.  

Sprint has said that the phones will be available in "Summer" by which I can safely assume it will be available by July.  You can sign up for the alert message from Sprint here so that Sprint informs you about the availability of the phone.  

This is good news for both users and Microsoft because Microsoft has just crossed 100000 Apps on Windows Phone store as well as launched a preview of Windows 8.1.

Do watch out for the very very small terms and conditions on the Sprint page for any hidden charges.

Snapdragon 800 chip to feature for the first time in Sony's Xperia Z Ultra smartphone

Intel started the GHz wars with Pentium a decade ago and now the memory wars have come to the footsteps of smartphones, tablets and phablets.  The powerful Snapdragon processor has been the choice of almost all Android phone makers because of its speed, versatility and performance.  Sony has taken that a step further with announcement of launch of Xperia Z Ultra smart phone which will be powered by Snapdragon 800.

The Xperia Z Ultra will run on a Snapdragon 800, making it the first ever device to run on Qualcomm’s super chip. The quad-core processor is clocked at 2.2 GHz and has LTE and HD Voice capabilities if your carrier supports it. 

The Xperia Z Ultra will run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Sony's own UI for starters.  It will have a big big screen of 6.44 inch display the biggest Sony has ever made. The display on the device will use the Sony’s new Triluminous technology and has a full HD resolution of 1080p, giving it a pixel density of 342 ppi.

The Xperia Z Ultra will come with all connectivity options like LTE, 3G, 2G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and NFC.   The smart phone will be  6.5 mm thick, making it the slimmest smartphone with a full HD display in the world and also will be easy on weight with just  212 g .  It will have OmniBalance design like Xperia Z and Xperia Z Tablet and will be available in three colours, black, white and purple.

As is now the norm with Sony devices, the Z Ultra will also have the underwater and dust resist IP55 and IP58 certification.  It also has an 8MP Camera on the rear with the Sony’s superb Exmor RS sensor which will make HDR video recording and the Superior Auto mode a breeze.  The Z Ultra will sport a 3000 mAh battery to power all of the above and will also have the Sony's trademark Stamina mode which lets you manage the battery usage.

The best feature of Z Ultra is yet to come.  You can you any pen or pencil with  tip diameter of more than 1mm as a stylus on the Z Ultra making it first device to sport such kind of feature.

However a word of caution, the phone will be highest price phone with all these super features and will be available only in Sept-Dec 2013 period

Samsung Galaxy Core with dual SIM dual Standby comes to India at Rs.15200.00

India seems to have become the latest destination for launching pre-orders like the western world.  The latest to join the pre-order bandwagon is Samsung Galaxy Core.   Those looking for a nice budget phone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean may take a look at this newest offering from Samsung.

HTC Butterfly S with Snapdragon 600 SoC and 3200 mAh battery announced

HTC today announced the launch of Butterfly S built on the same lines as its predecessor Butterfly launched last year but with a difference.  The Butterfly S will pack the largest capacity battery in any of the HTC lineup of phones and will run on Snapdragon 600 SoC.

The Butterfly S will have full HD Super LCD 3 display with a screen size of 5 inches.  The display will be protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and the phone will pack a battery of 3200 mAh which will give users 25 hours of 3G time, 29 hours of GSM time and a whopping 659 hours of standby time.  

On the insides, the Butterfly S will be powered by Snapdragon SoC with four krait cores clocked at 1.9GHz.  It will have 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory with slot for microSD card expansion.  The Butterfly S will come with Android Jelly Bean out of the box with the HTC trademark Sense 5 UI with BlinkFeed etc.

It will feature a 2.1MP front camera with support for 1080p video recording and HDR still photography.  It will also have the same HTC UltraPixel camera like one on HTC One.  Another huge plus added to HTC Butterfly S is  dual front stereo speakers powered by HTC BoomSound. 

For connections,  the Butterfly S will come with support for HSPA+ and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac bands.  It is DLNA compatible and comes with an IR blaster, support for Miracast wireless display and MHL support in the micro USB port. The Butterfly S also has an NFC chip and Bluetooth 4.0. 

The Taiwanese retailer Sogi has listed its price NT$22,900.00 which works out to approx $766.00 (Rs.44,000.00) which is to say that Butterfly S wont come cheap.   Although HTC has announced that the HTC Butterfly S will be available in select Asia Pacific markets from July the general availability for the larger world is not confirmed yet.

Desire 200 and Desire 600, budget 3.5 inch smart phones announced by HTC

There were rumours about HTC launching budget phones for mid level buyers floating around yesterday.  Today HTC itself announced launch of 2 budget phones, Desire 200 and Desire 600 which will be shipped by July end.  

The rumours were correct as far as the screen size is concerned.  The Desire 200 will come with a 3.5-inch screen with 320 x 480 resolution LCD display. It will run on a single core 1GHz  Qualcomm Snapdragon S1 CPU and have 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage with expandable memory slot.  It will be powered by  a 1230 mAh removable battery.

The smartphone will also feature a 3G modem for HSDPA, which will give speeds up to 7.2Mbps. The Desire 200 will come with a 5 megapixel, f/2.8 fixed focus camera with 34 mm lens that supports VGA video recording as well as a pair of Beats audio in-ear headphones.   The Desire 200 will also feature the HTC's Sense UI.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z the new 10.1 inch tablet from Sony Corporation

Though it is not featuring in the Gartner Q1 2013 in the top five as of yet, but Sony seem to hit the pay dirt with its Xperia Z.  Now that Xperia Z is a success, Sony is looking forward to building a empire out of the Z series and the latest announcement is a Xperia Z tablet running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

The Xperia Tablet Z remind you of its younger sibling the Xperia Z smart phone because it is as thin as Xperia Z at 6.9 mm.  It is  also light at 496 g.  

The Tablet has the same symmetry of power and port buttons like Xperia Z but all of them have flap for water protect capabilities which Xperia Z boasts of.  It has two stereo speakers at the bottom of the tablet and one on the side.  Together these three allow you to enable  the "S-Force Front Surround 3D" feature. 

The audio quality of the speakers is average. The flap-covered ports include the microUSB, microSD and SIM and the headphone jack. The sides house the volume rocker, power/sleep button and two contacts points for using it with a dock.  The front side has a glossy finish while the rear has a nice matte finish available in  white and black. This texture extends along the sides as well to offer better grip for holding the phone in one hand.

The Table Z comes with LED-backlit LCD display with a full HD resolution at 1920 x 1200 and a pixel count of 224 ppi. It comes with a factory fitted screen guard.  The Tablet Z is powered by 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm SoC (APQ8064) along with 2GB  of RAM. The tablet has 16GB of internal memory with the option of adding up to a 64GB microSD card. 

Sony has added a taskbar like  feature at the  top of the screen which runs common across home screens. The bottom has a selection of floating Apps browser, calculator etc. These apps open in movable windows and can be opened above your current app. There’s even an IR blaster in the front; Sony’s Remote Control app lets you set it up to any popular brand of television alongwith other electronics like set-top box, DVD, Blu-ray, CD player etc.

Samsung' Galaxy Mega 6.3 inch Tablet ready for pre order in India on Flipkart at Rs.30,990.00

Galaxy Mega 6.3, the Samsungs oversized Tablet is now available for pre-order on online shopping website Flipkart at Rs.30,990.00 with delivery within 2 to 3 weeks.  The price on Flipkart is slightly lower than the price at which Samsung had officially announced price last month.

The Galaxy Mega 6.3 comes with a 6.3-inch display with a 720p resolution and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS.  It is powered    GHz duual-core processor with a 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB internal memory.  It also has a expansion slot for microSD through which memory can be expanded upto 64GB

It has a 8MP rear camera and 1.9MP front camera.  It also has a dual SIM support and comes with standard connectivity options including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G and GPS. The Galaxy Mega 6.3 also has NFC support unlike its younger sibling Mega 5.8.  Mega 6.3 is powered by a 3200 mAh battery.

Amazons Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Fire HD will be available to Indians on June 27th

Stagnating sales in the US and continental Europe always has its own price and benefits.  Apple is paying the price of concentrating more and more on these countries while Samsung has been serving out variety of tech devices to China and India.  Amazon too is following suit.  Just weeks after its launch of Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Fire HD in China, Amazon has announce launch of both the devices in India starting June 27.  

First up lets see what Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader can do.  As the name mentions Kindle Paperwhite is a black and white screen e-reader.  Indians will have option to choose between two variants 3G and Wi-Fi.  While 3G is priced as Rs.10,999.00 the Wi-Fi will be available for Rs.13,999.00  

As said above the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader comes with a black-and-white screen which Amazon promises to have 25 percent more contrast that can be read even in direct sunlight.  With the Paperwhite, you can pack upto 1,100 books, and it has 62 percent more pixels for better resolution.  Kindle Paperwhite has 6 font style and 8 font size options.  The Paperwhite will come with a new 'Time to Read' feature which will tell you the time remaining for you to finish the book based on your reading speed.

In addition to that, Amazon claims that readers have a massive book selection to pick from, at low prices. "Over 600,000 titles at Rs 200 or less."  Visit Amazon's market place here to get the Paperwhite or place a request.

Next up is Kindle Fire HD, which will be available in two sizes.  A 8.9-inch version  is priced at Rs.21,999.00 and the 7 incher will set you back by Rs.15,999.00

The 8.9 inch Kindle Fire HD has a full HD IPS display with a 1920 x 1200 resolution, while the 7-inch tablet gets a 1280 x 800 resolution display. Both tablets have a  laminated touch sensor that Amazon says reduces glare from overhead lights. The tablets will also feature Advanced True Wide polarizing filters that help improve viewing angles. The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD is powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core TI-OMAP4470 processor and a PowerVR SGX544 GPU, along with 1GB of RAM. The 7-inch version gets the TI-OMAP4460 dual-core processor, which is clocked at 1.2GHz. It also has a PowerVR SGX540 and 1GB of RAM.

The Kindle Fire HD duo comes with dual-band Wi-Fi and can automatically switch between the two networks.   The tablets are available in 16 or 32GB versions. In addition, users get free unlimited storage on Amazon Cloud. All digital content purchased through Amazon is automatically backed up in the Amazon Cloud's Worry-Free Archive for access anytime.  Both have a HDMI-out ports and Bluetooth support. 

Both tablets have a 1.3 megapixel front-facing cameras that can be used for the custom Skype app for Kindle Fire HD. The biggest advantage of buying Amazon's tablets is access to a large selection of digital content, including millions of books, games and Apps. Amazon says both tablets should be able to stay powered on for 10 hours on a single charge.

Samsung Galaxy NX Professional Camera to be launched on 20th June, pictured leaked show hidden details

JK Shin's online confirmation about the Android-powered mirrorless camera has sent the tech world in a tizzy with lots of rumours and forum threads.  Now the Vietnamese tech site Tinh te has put up a couple of images of the product, code named Galaxy NX. The Galaxy NX combines two of Samsung’s categories, the smart devices and cameras.

The above are the first promotional shots put up by Tinh Te and   clear up a few of the questions users and future NX buyers may have.   From the shots seen, the Galaxy NX will feature interchangeable lenses, a proper viewfinder, an SLR looking body and a big rear display. 

Further the Galaxy NX will be coming to the market with a 20.3MP APS-C sensor as well as a 1080p video recording feature, with a maximum ISO setting of 25,600. The camera will also sport either a dual-core or a quad-core Exynos CPU.  Knowing Samsung, I will go for Exynos CPU as a favourite.

The rear display will feature a high resolution 4.3-inch screen, which will have touch screen capabilities, according to Tinh Te. The promotional shots also show a signal strength metre on the display from which we can safely infer that Galaxy NX will have some kind of cellular radio.

This is the furthest Tinh Te has gone and Samsung has not been so forthcoming about its latest launch.  So we will have to wait till 20th June to know the actual specs and features of the Samsung Galaxy NX professional camera.  I will post them as soon as they are available.
