MANUGANU another fast paced action game for Android devices

MANUGANU another fast paced action game for Android devices

Manuganu is a 3D side- scroller running game for Android devices. The gameplay involves you controlling the character of the game, a boy called Manuganu.  You can run, jump and slide from ropes, dodge rocks to save Manuganu.  You also have to avoid the swinging hammers and jump over moving ice block in order to save yourself.  In the meantime if you don’t get burned  you can jump between walls to collect coins and medallions. Break stone blocks and activate platforms before you fall into fog

Unlike other usual running games, Manuganu brings on the “Halt feature” to avoid swinging rocks, hammers, flames and other enemies with the right timing.  This feature depends upon your timing.   Another important feature of Manuganu is the ability to switch from “running” mode to “rope climbing” mode when needed. But be careful! This mode has its own challenges.

The game which is published by Alper Sankaya has already seen 1000000+ download within days of update. Game features include the following.

•Platforming Actions: Double Jumping, Wall Sliding, Hovering, Wall Jumping, Rolling, Breaking Stone Blocks
•Run through 30 different levels, each with it’s own unique design according to the level theme.
•Two button controls and specific swipe controls.
•Run into alternate paths to get 3 Star in all Levels.
•Three different environments with full 3D graphics.
•Original Soundtrack by Tolga YURDABAK
•Turkish-English Language Support

Facebook Phone; a full spec review of the HTC First the first phone to have a Facebook Home

Facebook Phone; a full spec review of the HTC First the first phone to have a Facebook Home

The fate of two companies depend on the success of this phone, HTC Corporation and Facebook.  Both have put in significant of human resources to build this phone from a scratch.  This will be the first smartphone which will have a brand new Facebook Home.
Facebook Phone; a full spec review of the HTC First the first phone to have a Facebook Home
The HTC First is truly a Facebook Phone in every sense but it comes with its own disadvantages.  The phone boasts of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS at a time when world over the smart phones are shifting to 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

So if you expect a Facebook Phone to be entirely different than you will have to change your expectations.  Though HTC has made some UI changes like a new lock screen which also displays notifications.  This phone also allows you tocheck out each notification or gather them all and save them for later. A new change is accessing your App drawer which can be opened by dragging your profile image upwards.  If you drag the picture towards the right, the last opened App can be accessed while dragging to the left opens up the Messenger.  The Messenger in the Phone unifies your SMSes and Facebook messages, which many of you would like.

The first App drawer screen will have your pinned Apps while you can access your complete collection of Apps with a right swipe.  But the most important thing for HTC First is the brand new debut of Facebook Home which is sure to make Facebook users feel at home.

The home screen for Facebook Home is called the cover feed. Your Photos and posts that show up in the message feed on Facebook webpage will show up here.  The HTC First than allows you  to swipe back and forth through them to view them at your leisure. If you double tap any photo, comment or status that means you have ‘Liked’ it and comment on it.  Chat is also available from the home screen itself.  Further the chat notification will also appear on the top of any App you have opened so you can tap it and reply it from there.

HTC First is also sure to sport the new VoIP messenger though the initial reports don't give indications that the First will sport the VoIP messenger.  It has all the hardware required for VoiP and 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash with secondary 1.6-megapixel front-facing camera for your video calling needs.

HTC First is also good under the hood.  It sports a 4.3-inch 1280 x 720 display which will give a nice 720p experience.   It sports a dual-core 1.4GHz CPU with a  Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM.   It will also have 3G and wi-fi for connectivity, there is no mention of LTE networks.  It will also support the new sharing standard NFC and there will be GPS for positioning.  The phone will have a internal memory of 16GB with no support of expandable memory which means that you have to do what you do with the 16GB.    This is sure to piss of many future buyers.  Another thing which works against it the non replaceble battery.  Though the battery is 2000 mAH it wont be enough if your are full time Facebooker.

HTC has everything is place for a typical Facebook fan but will it get the pricing right that is the more important question.  Everybody who likes being a Facebook will like this phone if its price is competitive.  It should cost Rs.15000.00 + in India and $99 on two year contract in the US.

Hope the Facebook and the HTC have hit the bulls eye with the new Facebook Phone.  Will review the final phone when it lands in India.  Till that time please check out the latest launches here.  Please post in your comments.

Mozilla ready to take on Chrome on Android platform with launch of Firefox Beta

From the Mobile wars to the Browser wars the game continues to get more and more interesting.  Mozilla yesterday released the Firefox Beta for Android devices.  Mozilla confirmed that this browser was in beta stage for testing and asked for users to comment on it.

The Firefox Beta App which the Mozilla released yesterday has been updated to include custom, open source fonts viz. Charis and Open Sans, which will replace the default Android fonts to make the App "visually appealing" as per Mozilla Blog. Another interesting feature to be included in this Beta update is HTML5 Compatibility Optimisations. Mozilla claims that the updated app brings improvements to HTML5 compatibility which it has tested on HTML5test.org.

Here is what the Mozilla has done with this Beta version update

Open Sans and Charis fonts for Web Content                NEW

                                                                                         CHANGED
Removed E4X support from SpiderMonkey               DEVELOPER
Implemented Remote Profiling                                   DEVELOPER
Integrated, Add-on SDK loader and API libraries into Firefox
                                                                                     DEVELOPER
DOM/content implementation for <input type='time'> Associated bugs                                                                                 HTML5
Added support for <main> element                                HTML5
Implemented scoped stylesheets                                     FIXED
Download Manager page is not updated after clearing private data (777639)                                                                          FIXED
In content UI cut off on small screens (840593)             FIXED

As you can see that it has fixed a lot of bugs and made the browser visually appealing but a number of known issues are still unresolved.  But if you are a developer or webmaster, then the beta version is for you.  Download the Beta version from the Google Play now and enjoy the difference.

Please put in your comments on this post.

DA (Dearness Allowance) orders for 1.1.2013 to be issued today by the Government of India.

DA (Dearness Allowance) orders for 1.1.2013 to be issued today by the Government of India.

The staff working in the Government institutions are waiting with a baited breath for increase of DA (Dearness Allowance) for the period starting 1.1.2013.  The DA is paid by the government to the employees to mitigate the rise in prices.  The government employees through out India have been waiting for the DA rates from 1.1.2013 orders for which are yet to be issued by the Government.

As we all know the prices have gone through the roof since the last DA in 1.7.2012 was announced.  A litre of petrol now costs Rs.5.00 more than it did in July 2012 and a litre of Diesel now costs Rs.54.87 compared to 45.00 something it cost in July 2012.

The media and the newspapers seem to think that the Government is giving free dole outs to its employees with the headlines shrieking 8 % DA announced for government employees.  It is indeed a pain to see such a headline by incompetent fools who sit in airconditioned cabins get a yearly raise amounting to 20000-100000  who just dont understand that a government employee doesnt have the privilege of deciding what raise he/she should get.  A government employee gets a flat raise of 3% per year without any discrimination from the top HAG cadre officers to the peons and other low category staff.

Neither do they get the perks like a airconditioned office, lunch passes, annual fixed LFC of 50000.00 or unlimited tea and coffee for them.  Many offices don't even have a decent fans (the vintage fans adorning many offices are visible in GPO or the CTO).  An government employee gets Rs.3750.00 as festival advance once a year.  In today's inflation driven situation the 3750.00 is not enough for even hosting a small party for 4 friends leave alone celebrating any festival.  And mind you this advance is to be returned to the government in monthly installments.  Other things the private offices manage to do is to give certain compensation in cash which any case is devoid of income tax.  Whereas a government servant can never escape the claws of income tax as all pay and allowances are guided by the government rules and regulations.

Anyways back to the subject of DA, the government is finally going to announce the DA.  Kindly visit the finmin site here or CGA site here.  Do check it out by 8.00 pm today.   Yesterday on 4.4.2013, the CCEA met and decided on the Sugar decontrol but no news yet on the DA.

Hope this explains the DA and the headlines.  Keep your eyes peeled for the DA orders and tell me about it so I can give information to other government offices about the rise.  You can leave a comment in the comment box and I will answer it.

Update 6.4.2013 : As of today the DA orders have not been issued by the Finance Ministry.  There are two possibilities for the delay, one is the absence of Finance Minister and the other is that Govt. may just be thinking about giving something more than just 8 % DA as it is on its last legs.

Update 12.4.2013 : Today the Fin Min put out the resolution for fixing of annual rates of all type of provident funds of Government of India, which are 8.7 % p.a. for the financial year 2013-14, by the way, but there is still no DA order.

Update 14.4.2013 : The finmin.nic.in site is down since morning and the Finance Minister is leaving for Canada and USA for a two week tour to IMF and WB today and there are still no clarifications on DA.  Kindly keep checking the finmin site for update on DA orders.

Update 18.4.2013 : Government to finally declare DA today.  Read the article here.

Update 25.4.2013 : At long last the Government has issued the orders today at 5.00 pm please read this article here

Supreme Court of India doing things that should have been done by the Executive

Supreme Court of India doing things that should have been done by the Executive
First of all I salute the Supreme Court of India and its Judges, they are really doing what the Executives of the India ought to do.  The constitution of India divides the Indian authority into three parts.  The Legislative - to lay down or enact the statutes of law, the Executive - to implement the statutes of the Law and the Judiciary - To oversee whether the implementation is done within the rules laid down in the statutes and constitution of India.  In another instance of Judicial activism, the Supreme Court of India to pulled the government for usage of red beacon and siren by all and sundry and the impact of it on general public.

Right from the time of Independence of India and formation of the Republic in 1957, the Executive, which includes the Ministries, the Bureaucrats, the Technocrats and the officers of the services like IPS, IFS, IES have failed to deliver the goods as written in the Constitution of India.

The failures listed may be a high profile execution of building dams, laying rail network or four laning of the National highways to a simple protection of the females, the backward community of India or plain vanilla giving a good governance to the citizens of the country.  Every single time it has failed, the reasons for which are many like corruption, neopotism, favourism and general lack of interest in the well being of the country.

It is indeed a very angry site when you have to go somewhere and are blocked in the road for half an hour because some idiot minister or a VIP is passing the same road.  This happens rarely in Mumbai but it happens daily in Delhi.  The entire road is blocked to make the road free for the VIP who passes in some kind of a parade with the red beacon flashing and a wailing siren.  It really makes fools out of us every time we see such a site because he is what we made him.  Had we not elected the man he wouldn't have been an VIP.  But sadly time and again we have to wait in the hot dry roads for him to pass so we can go about our way.  The legislative is fully for this because a flashing red beacon and sire gives them a perverse sadistic kind of notion of power and makes them feel like the kings of yore.  Watch this video to get a feel about what I am talking about.

Now thankfully the Supreme Court of India has taken the matters into it hands and thankfully will get rid of this menace once and for all.  A bench of Justices G.S.Singhvi and Kurian Joseph came down heavily on the Government and its executives saying that, "there is no need for others to use the siren.  Ambulances, Fire brigades and the Army using the beacons is understandable. We think you should ask the others to remove it immediately," it told the Additional Solicitor General.  It further added that, "The general public hates the vehicles with red beacon and siren mainly because of the brazen manner in which the police stops them to allow the VIP car to have a smooth passage"

The words of the Bench are not just heart warming to ordinary citizens of India but a severe warning to the executives of the country.  They are only adding to the class divide that exists in the country.  Out of the population of 125 billion or so 40 % of people of India still live in abject poverty and it does the VIPs no good to act like they are the self styled rulers of this country or to think India is a banana republic.

Another point which is to be noted that due to the frequent run in with general public the Authority loses respect from them which in turn can harm the law and order situation of the country.  A layman has to have some fear of the law for the country to run smoothly.  If this fear goes away then anarchy will reign the country.  It is already showing its fangs in form of the naxal moment in the eastern jungles of India.

So, better late then never, let us hope that our friendly neighbourhood minister removes his red beacon and siren, and for once walks among us like a ordinary Indian.

I intend to write about the other actions which have been taken by Supreme Court, which ideally should have long ago been taken up by the ruling class of India.  Please write in your comments regarding the same, it encourages me.
