Google search to give 'Carousel' type search results for eateries, Restaurants and more in US

Google search is experimenting a 'carousel' type display so the next time you search for Indian Restaurants in New York you will get a 'carousel' at the top just like the one I have on top of this article.  But Google being Google the 'carousel' will be super interactive and refined giving you the details of the restaurant, reviews, scores telephone numbers and addresses, which will help you find the best fit for you and families dining needs.  

iPad already has this feature since December along with some other tablets.  The feature works in a simple way. Your search input is say, French Restaurant on Google Search. The result page will have a carousel of establishments, complete with their images for you to view. It will contain several details about the restaurants, including its overall review-based score and address.  

It will also serve as a additional pep up to the local eateries to be on Google Search, giving them their two minutes of fame.  Though it is not clear whether Google will monetize this search results, but a definite revenue stream for Google.  

The feature will only be available for US markets as of now but pretty soon the regional Googles will also have it.

'Izik' the tablet optimised search engine now available for iPhone and Android smart phones

Blekko the publisher and developer of Izik Search Engine has released the search engine for both iPhone and Android Smart phones.  The speciality of izik is that it is optimised for tablets and in this case smart phones. 

The new version of Izik (which is pronounced “Isaac”)  is first foray by Blekko into smartphone category and includes a feature called “What’s Nearby” which will show hotels, banks, restaurants, movie theaters and other places of interest near where you are.

Izik makes use of Blekko’s “Dynamic Inference Graph”, which filters search results into specific categories which I have already reviewed in the Izik Search Engine for tablets.

Yahoo! Search goes for a makeover and gets a modern look but only in US for the moment

This is the image of the newly designed Yahoo! search in the United States of America.  Yahoo! seems to have let go its decade old search interface in keeping with changing times.  The new design as per Yahoo will give out relevant results front and center, and is consistent with their newly designed homepage. In addition to a new design, Yahoo! also claims to have fed it some under-the-hood performance improvements that enables the pages to load faster.

The modern design is also includes a new  navigation bar at the top of the page allowing users to toggle between the Yahoo! mail, news, sports, finance and other Yahoo! sites easily.  And Yahoo! had said that it will improve on the navigation bar to give the user total Yahoo! experience from within the page

Laurie Mann, SVP, Search of Yahoo! said this to say

"Over the coming months, you’ll see more from Yahoo! as we work to deliver a search experience that combines utility with beauty and gets you to your results faster. Today’s news is just our first step," 

Looks like with the acquisition of Tumbler and the complete refurbishment of Yahoo!  Marissa Mayer will take Yahoo! back to its old glory days.  The email interface was changed in the month of December, 2012 and now the search interface, makes it seem that  Yahoo! is fast peddling its redesign schemes.
