This was the webpage most of the Indians using today were greeted with for most part of the afternoon.
We are so dependent on GMail that if it goes down, we tend to go down with it. Similar thing happened today, the Gmail page refused to load giving a 502 error between 1 pm and 3 pm India time. Below is the chart from downrightnow.com for Gmail. You can see the big blip there in the 6 hours - 3 hours range

The disturbances today were not isolated instances when Gmail was down. It was not working on 2nd, 8, 10th and 11th May also but the disruptions were of minor nature hence many users. And Google on its part gave a message in the dashboard apologising for the disruptions with following message
“The problem with Gmail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better.”
For today's outage, though Google issued a statement saying only 0.75 % of the total user of Gmail were affected. It also added that most of the users were from India, Middle East and South East Asia. However the downrightnow.com graph is for the whole world as per my knowledge.
Besides Gmail, Twitter and Facebook users had faced the disruptions last week but both the social networking companies worked them out. Facebook took 90 minutes to sort its problems out and Twitter took half an hour.
Hope Gmail has now sorted out the servers issues it is facing and continue giving us the best of the services in years to come.
