Many of us know Kickstarter, and for those who don't know it is a online campaign to garner funds for independent start ups who don't have the resources to develop the idea into a good scaleable one. Kickstarter has had many success stories including Ouya for which it garnered $8.5 million. Now the Kickstarter is supporting a project by two San Mateo engineers Andy and Rich to develop a Mini MicroSD card which will work on Android devices which don't support expandable memory. It will connect to the device via the micro-USB port usually found this type of devices.
The two brothers, Andy and Rich were frustrated with the lack of expandable memory in the Google's Nexus tablet, hence they started their own project to do so. They developed a tiny microSD card reader that can support upto 32GB micro SDHC and 64GB microSDXC cards which in turn will work with the devices micro USB port.
The developers say they have tested the mini microSD on following devices :
hat it works with the following devices:
Samsung Galaxy S2, S3, Note, Note 2; Class 1 support.
Motorola RAZR M, RAZR HD, RAZR MAXX HD; Class 1 support.
HTC One X+, Evo 4G LTE (Sprint), DROID DNA; Class 1 support.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google Nexus 7 & Nexus 10; Class 2 support.
Nook Color, Kindle Fire (non-HD); Class 3 support.
Tablets using RockChip & AllWinner chips; Sonicview N710; Class 1 support.
The class one support means that the device is supported out of the box, class two means that third party App is needed for support and class 3 means that you will have to root the device to use the microSD
The developers have also given a consideration the fact that it is so small it can be easily lost. They have given a small clip hook which in turn can be attached to your key chain.
The promised delivery date is July 2013 and as of now the Kickstarter has already garnered $14800.00 as against the goal of $5000.00. If you are interested you can visit Kickstarter site and make your own pledge and be the first one to receive this device.
