How to embed Instagram Photos and Videos into your web page, a easy guide

With millions of photos and videos being uploaded on Instagram every day, many people feel the need to embed the photo or a video from their Instagram stream to their website.  Well this tutorial helps you with that.  

Please thank the makers of this free tool, Digital Inspiration who have provided with a website for conversion of the code to html5.  

Okay, on with the tutorial, its rather simple.  Go to the Instagram photo or video page of the photo or video you want to embed in your web page.  Copy the entire url from the address bar.  It should look like instagram.com/p/xxxxxx.  Now head over to the free conversion tool page by Digital Inspiration here.  Paste the url in the blank window and press generate.  You are done.

Now you can head over to your blog code editor or blogger draft and paste the code in html.  The photo/video size given is 612 x 612 and the code is in HTML5 so it should be seen or played on any browser. 

PlayStation 3 (PS3) step by step guide for the bricking caused by the updated firmware 4.45

If you own a PS3 you may have bricked your console when you updated to the PlayStation 3 firmware update released by Sony last week.  Though the bricking only occurred only if you were using a modified HDD but still there are many a hard core gamers who use their own modified HDD and may have been affected by this firmware.  

Sony has finally released a patch which involves manually doing the things which I am putting down below :  

Step 1: Manually Download System Software

You will need a USB Mass Storage device such as a USB flash drive with at least 168 MB of free space. If your PS3 is either CECHA00/CECHB00 series model, you can also use Memory Stick™, SD Memory Card, and CompactFlash®.

Create a folder named “PS3” on the storage media or USB device.

Within the PS3 folder, create a folder named "UPDATE".

Using your computer, click the following hyperlink to begin downloading system software 4.46

Download the update data from the webpage and save it in the "UPDATE" folder.

Location: Save in the “PS3” folder > “UPDATE” folder

File name: Save as file name “PS3UPDAT.PUP”

Note: If the data is not saved in the correct way, the PS3 will not recognize the update data. The folder name must be in all uppercase letters.

Step 2: Activate Safe Mode

With the PS3 off (power light should be red), touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the 1st beep indicating that the PS3 is powering on.

Continue to hold the power button, and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear a 2nd beep.

Continue to hold the power button and after 5 more seconds you'll hear a 3rd beep, and system will power off (Power light goes red).

Release power button.

Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the 1st beep, again for PS3 power on.

Continue to hold and after approximately 5 seconds you will hear the 2nd beep for video reset.

Continue to hold and after 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep.  At that point release power button. 

If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button". 

Connect a controller to the PS3 with a USB cable.

If you were not able to get into Safe Mode, your system may need service for which please contact the authorised service centre of Sony.

Step 3: Manually Update PS3 Software

Connect the storage media to PS3 system.

Select [6 - System Update] and Press X.

Please note: Data and settings may be deleted if you choose any of the first (5) options. Please make sure to only choose option [6 - System Update].

Press Start and Select at the same time.

The PS3 system will restart and recognizes the update file in the storage media.

Press right on the d-pad to scroll through the update description and user agreement.

Press X to confirm the update.

The system will now install the new system software and restart automatically upon completion.

If all above three steps fail to bring your PlayStation 3 back to life, you can visit this website for further assistance.

The new update fixes the issues with the 4.45 firmware update that caused any PS3 with a modified HDD to brick. So far, the update doesn’t seem to have affected any console with the default HDD. Sony has since pulled the 4.45 firmware from its official listing of the update page.

Tutorial for rooting Samsung Galaxy S IV i9500, Build "XXUAMDK" Easy 3 step guide.

You may have just bought your self a brand new Samsung Galaxy S IV and enjoyed being the object of envy among your friends, colleagues and neighbours.  After the initial exuberance has worn of, you did better get down to the basic things.  S IV ships with a lot of gloatware or Apps which are needless and hog your memory.  You also may wish to customize your phone to suit your own identity and needs.  I will present to you the safest way of rooting a Samsung Galaxy SIV model i9500 and Build "XXUAMDK".  Under no circumstances should you use this method to root any other build or model, it may brick the phone.

Remember rooting a phone is a serious business and will void your warranty.  Improper rooting may cause the phone to break down.  Now lets get down to business.  First verify that the Galaxy SIV you have purchased is indeed using i9500 (Exynos).  Some SIV are shipped with i9505(Qualcomm).  This process will not work with i9505.  To check which model and build your phone has, you go to Settings > More > About Device.  You can get both the details here.  

Next thing is to check the build number.  For this process, it should read as "XXUAMDK" as the last few digits.  After you have verified both the above, you need to get your phone ready for USB Debugging mode.  However the new OS will not show you the "Developer options" menu nor enabled in the settings by default.

To enable it, click on "About Device" and scroll down till you see the "Build number". Tap continuously on the "Build Number" field till you see some messages on the screen; go down to enable the Developer options. After a while, you will see a message informing you that the "Developer mode" is enabled. 

Hit the back button and you will find the Developer options field available. Click on it and enable it with the toggle switch on the top right. Now head below to the "Debugging" section and enable "USB debugging". Finally, go back to the "Security" options and click on the field "Unknown sources" to allow third-party apps to be installed. 

If you have completed the above steps, congrat, your phone can now be rooted. Now all you will need are two files and a simple utility to be downloaded from the Internet. Download the files from the links below

Odin 3.07 : Android Flashing utility

Samsung SGS4 drivers  : USB drivers required for the PC to recognise your phone. 

ClockworkMod Recovery : Recovery utility that you need to install on your phone to flash ROMs and take backups of your existing operating system. 

Adam’s kernel :   Kernel  to root the phone for you in a single step. 

Download the above files and store them in a separate folder name. You will have to unzip them from within the folder.  Store the folder on your desktop for easy access.

Now to the rooting process : Switch off your SGS4 and wait for a few seconds. Now press the "Volume down" button and the "Home button" together and keeping the two buttons held down, press the power button. Release the buttons when you see the Samsung logo on the screen. You shall see a message stating that the phone is in download mode and asking you to continue by pressing the "Volume Up" button. Go ahead and press the Volume Up button once. Your phone is now in download mode and ready for being flashed with new files.  Next plug in the USB cable into your phone and the PC.  Windows will start installing the necessary drivers.  Wait till all the driver installation work is done. Now open the desktop folder where you have  saved your above files.  In the Odin folder, double click  on Odin.exe executable file. Odin will start up and you should see the phone connected to the utility and ready for flashing. To confirm this, the field "ID:COM" should have a light blue colour with "0:(ComXX)" written in it. (the XX can be any number and will vary from PC to PC). This states that your phone is recognised by Odin and is ready.

Now click on the button "PDA" and choose the file "GT-I9500_AdamKernel.V1.2.Odin.tar" from the Adam Kernel folder. Next, ensure that the check boxes "Auto Reboot", "F. Reset Time" and "PDA" are the only check boxes checked, leave the rest unchecked as per image below :

Hit the "Start Button". Watch the "Message" box on the lower left side to see if everything runs fine and there are no errors. This process will take a few seconds and the phone should reboot on its own. After the phone restarts, you should see the "Superuser" app installed and the phone already rooted automatically by this kernel. To confirm that the phone is successfully rooted, download any app that needs superuser permissions (such as Titanuim backup, ROM manager  or Root explorer) and you should be prompted for the root access, which means that you have successfully rooted the phone.  Shut down the Odin window.

Next process is to install the Clockwork Recovery Mode.  This process is also simple and involves the same procedure you used for Adams' kernel.  

Switch off the phone and restart as per above process, when you get to download mode screen restart Odin. This time, click the PDA button and choose the file "recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.2-i9500.tar.md5" from the folder. Once again, ensure that the check boxes "Auto Reboot", "F. Reset Time" and "PDA" are the only check boxes to be checked. Hit the "Start" button and wait a few seconds till it gets done and the phone restarts automatically. 

Disconnect the phone from the PC and shut down the phone.  Now press the Volume Up button and the Home button together, and keeping the two buttons held down, press the power button. The phone should now enter the recovery mode automatically.

Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your phone.  Now first of all things, take a complete backup (Nandroid) of your existing operating system from the recovery mode to ensure that the operating system can be safely restored in case of a mishap.  This is really important.  

Now you can search for good custom ROM you want to install and install several root level Apps.  You can even remove the gloatware that SIV ships with as per your requirement.

Remember this is a tutorial for only qualified technicians, if you are not comfortable with rooting of phones etc. please don't try this one.  Please post in your comments.

LPG subsidy directly to bank account will start from 1st June, 18 districts to start with, whole country to follow soon!

Remember my tutorial for downloading Aadhaar Card.  In the post I had reported at that time,  that the authorities will soon be moving towards a structure where all the LPG subsidies you are entitled to, will be directly paid into your Aadhaar Card linked bank account.  Now the Government is planning to implement the same in a rightful earnest.  

The authorities are going to start the scheme from June 1, 2013 with 18 districts namely Anantpur, Chittoor, East Godavari, Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy in Andhra Pradesh; Diu in Daman and Diu; North Goa; Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una in Himachal Pradesh; Tumkur in Karnataka; Pathanamthitta and Wayand in Kerala; Wardha in Maharasthra; Pondicherry; SBS Nagar/Nawanshahar in Punjab and East Nimar (Khandwa) and Harda in Madhya Pradesh.

And from 1st July, 2013, it will be implemented in Mandi and Mysore districts of Karnataka.  The rest of the country is to follow soon in a phased manner.

So if you have not yet heard about this, or linked you Aadhar Card to your bank account you can head over to your branch and do it now.  State Bank of India had advertised a few days back about the fact and invited its customers to link the Aadhar Card to their bank accounts.

Another question many of my friends, readers and colleagues ask? why this additional work or 'Jhanjhat'.  Did you know that around 20 % of LPG cylinders which belonged to you, genuine users, were sold in the black market by operators.  Their modus operandi was simple and straight forward.  They would study your usage pattern and develop a way to assign a cylinder in your name and sell it in black market.

If you required 1 cylinder every month, they would book 2 in your name, deliver 1 to your address and sell the second one at a neat and handsome profit of around 200%.  Even right now after the price rise and restrictions on the LPG cylinders per year,  the residential cylinders are available in black market at Rs.1200.00 and the commercial ones @ Rs.1900.00 (this is the rate in Mumbai).  

So one fine day when all the LPG connections through out the country are linked to a central data base viz UIDAI authority through Aadhaar Card, and the subsidy is directly paid to the users, the leakage and pilferage will stop because everything will be online and no paper money is exchanged.  

Join the Aadhaar revolution, support the Government in its efforts to weed out the black marketeers who themselves are reason for high prices of LPG.

How to free memory by removing unwanted gloatware from Samsaung Galaxy S IV(rooted)

You may have just purchased a Samsung Galaxy SIV and are just basking in joy of having the ultimate Android phone in your hands. The flagship phone from the South Korean giant in your hands may be sense of envy among your friends and colleagues.  But, do you know that the brand new Samsung Galaxy SIV comes with both wanted and unwanted features.   The Samsung SIV comes with a hell lot of bloatware (see screenshot)!

You will sure be overwhelmed by the features on the Samsung Galaxy S4 combined with super good looks, do remember there are several unwanted Apps under the hood of the device which not only hog memory but also make your screen a bit cluttered.

A few examples of unwanted Apps and features are the stock live wallpapers, such as phase beam and bubbles or the printing services which you may never use.  Some features like maps, social networking apps, widgets, weather apps and a few more run in the background even though you will use your own custom Apps.

While most might not be active every time you switch on your Galaxy S4, they unnecessarily hog useful space, and believe me if you own a SIV you will require every bit of real estate in future.  And add to that they eat into the system resources and feast on the battery life.   So it is better to get rid of them and make your phone lighter App wise, clutter free and in the process enhance the battery life.

The beauty of using this tutorial is that you can safely delete the unwanted material and can even restore some of the Apps, should you require them in future.  To continue with the tutorial you have to root the Samsung IV.  Kindly read the tutorial for rooting Samsung Galaxy SIV i9500 here.  If you have done so already, proceed with the tutorial.

The method to get rid of the bloatware was put up by my friends at XDA forums a while ago and is pretty neat.  They have also opened a separate SIV thread, should you need one, head over there.  

Now back to the tutorial.   All you need is a rooted phone with a root-enabled file explorer to enter into the system area and delete the unwanted applications from there. It is requested to make a backup before you do so, just in case you accidentally delete something you didn't intend to.  To reinstall any app, just copy the file into the original location and set permissions for Read/write, Read Read (RW-R-R) (see screenshot) and reboot the phone.

Remember YOU are not to install these system Apps like any other Apps you download and install.  This may cause your OS to crash.  As I have already advised take a complete backup (Nandroid) using the recovery mode and then proceed. In case you mistakenly delete something important, you can simply recover the entire operating system from the Nandroid backup. 

You can also use the Titanium Backup for removing the unwanted files.  You can either freeze the app or uninstall it. Titanium Backup also features automatic backup of the app you are uninstalling, so you are safe here too. To get the app back, you can simply defrost it or restore it using Titanium Backup. OF the two this is a safer method.  

The other Apps available for removing the bloatware such as "NoBloat" and "Root Uninstaller".  Click on the hyperlink to download them. These apps can also back up and restore the apps at a later stage, but they won't free up any memory on your phone, they will hide the apps from your app drawer and keep them from running in the background or popping up notifications. 

After removing the bloatware PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING :  In order to keep the deleted apps from reinstalling automatically after rebooting, make sure you have deleted the app "PreloadIndtaller.apk" from the "/system/app" folder. If you forget to delete this app, the bloatware will reappear again after rebooting.

If you have any queries like a system crash or other bad, you can head to XDA forums where the Android Guru's will solve your any query.  Remember rooting voids warranty and is only to be done if you are comfortable with playing with system files.  Do not, I repeat do not attempt it if you are a novice.

You may choose to keep some of the files mentioned in the Image 1 above, if you require them.  After removing the bloatware you will feel you phone lighter on memory side and the battery will drain much slower then previously.  Kindly write in your comments on the tutorial

How to install Facebook home on your Android Phone including an unsupported one

If you are a Facebooker and spend more than 5 hours a day on Facebook then the Facebook Home is a must have App for you.  However it is sad that the Facebook is rolling out the App in a staggered manner so if you do not reside inside the US of A then you cannot download Facebook Home via Google Play.    However the Android development community which is known to be very enterprising and forthcoming have come up with a very easy solution.  Instead of the official channel just download the Apk file and enjoy the Facebook Home till it officially arrives on your mobile.

First things first, you need a 720p display smartphone running on Android and a good internet connectivity phone.  So if you have a HTC One, Samsung S III, Note II etc you can go ahead with the procedure.  

The next thing which you need is a file managing App which lets you access your SD card and/or internal memory.  Download the App called Astro File Manager here from Google Play.  Now Go to the setting > Applications > Unknown Sources and click the small window in there.  This will let you install the App bypassing the Google Play.  Next thing you need is the Apk file for the Facebook Home.  Download the Apk File from here(courtesy Team MoDaCo).

Load the file from the Astro File Manager and enjoy Facebook Home on your supported phone.

If you dont have a supported phone that is your phone doesn't have a 720p display, don't be disheartened there is a workaround for that too but remember you wont be able to enjoy the full benefits of Facebook Home.  Also remember phone without 720p display is fine but you need a internet connection for this App and this App is a big data hogger.

If you have a unsupported phone first you have to download the Facebook App Apk from Team MoDaCo here and then get the Facebook Messenger App Apk from Team MoDaCo here.  Next download the Facebook Home Apk for unsupported phones from here.  Now with the help of Astro File Manager install these Apks one by one in the same order which I have posted and there you have it, the Facebook Home.

I have already written the review of Facebook Home which please read here.  The Facebook Home is a very good App if you are active Facebooker because the Chat Head always remains on top of the screen no matter if you are watching a movie, playing a game or  using a application.

Want to check you email urgent and the Android lock screen comes in the way? Here is way to add widgets to the lock screen on Android

If you own a Android device and have Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) or up operating system you should try out the new lock screen widgets.  These are not only helpful such as seeing the clock or reading a email without unlocking the phone but also very easy to install.

The installation procedure for Lock Screen widgets is pretty simple.

Put your phone to sleep and then click the power button to light up your lock screen.  Next swipe from the left side of the display to the right side.  As you do this a secondary screen appears with a big + sign.  Tap the + sign to see the available lock screen widgets on your phone.  Mind you you will have to open the phone using passcode to access the widgets list.  In the widgets list, tap the widget you like and it will be added to your lock screen.  You can have upto five lock screen widgets that is one widget per swipable screen.

In case you want to remove the widget tap it, hold it and drag it to the "remove" icon.

This feature has been added by Google in the Jelly Bean os but mind you if you keep your email and calender visible on the lock screen anybody can read the inbox and your contacts.

How to capture the perfect picture even from your not so hip or high end camera

Everybody in today's world is a ace cameraman given the influx of smart phones everywhere.  But it is difficult to get the perfect picture from your smart phone even if you have the best in business like the Nokia PureView 808, the iPhone 5 or Nokia Lumia 920.  You just can't get a good capture inspite of having all the adequate hardware just like the DSLR camera.  The results often make you want for a better camera phone.  This tutorial will teach you to take a first class pro photo using your old camera phone without any sweat.  

People then mostly photoshop or instagram it and add filters to make the photo look pretty but eventually it is a hoax and called photoshoped on the forums.  So is there a way to capture the most beautiful pictures even with your 1MP cameras.  Yes there is a way around without using the photoshop.   This can be done with help of some useful tips and a free software called Irfanview.  

First the tips :

1. Keep your hands as steady as possible to avoid blurry shots. Even a little bit of shaking can cause blurry photos.

2. If the camera under or over-exposes the frame, use the EV slider to increase or decrease exposure accordingly. EV slider (Exposure Value) setting can be accessed in the camera options.  When the main subject which you intend to capture is darker than the background, increase exposure value. If the subject is much lighter than the background, decrease exposure value.

3. Clean the glass that protects the lens with a lint-free cloth. Settled dust particles and smudges on the glass could lead to blurred photos or flaring.  If you can't reach it use the lint cloth to cover the lens and use a tooth pick (wood) to clean it.

Next download the IrfanView from here and install it.  Now download the complete zip file containing all the plugin from here.  You can also download the exe file of plugins from Brothersoft site here.  After installing the plugins you have to install one more plugin called Topaz DeNoise from here on a 30 day trial basis.   Topaz DeNoise is one of the best noise reduction plug-ins for Photoshop that can also be used with IrfanView.  It reduces the grain level we usually find on non cured photos.  

Install Topaz DeNoise after installing IrfanView and its plug-in pack. After installation, navigate to the installation folder of Topaz DeNoise and copy the plug-in file (tldenoise5ps.8bf) from the "Plugins" folder and copy it to "PluginsAdobe 8BF" folder in IrfanView’s installation folder.

Now with the software complexities done you can go ahead with your capture.  Capture a couple of photographs choose the best one and transfer it to your computer.  Load the photograph in Irfanview.

After loading the photo, go to "Image | Effects | Adobe 8BF filters" or use the shortcut "Ctrl+k" to access the same. To add Topaz DeNoise to the list, click on the "Add 8BF filters" button and specify the folder to which you copied the plug-in file in IrfanView’s installation folder. If you did everything correctly, you should now see Topaz DeNoise in the list. Double-click on it to run it; the filter’s UI will be presented to you in a new Window.

The object of the Topaz DeNoise is to reduce graininess and colour noise as much as possible without losing too much detail. Use the zoom control in the top right corner to set the zoom to 200 percent to get a clear view of the noise. Drag the frame to bring forth the portion of the image in which noise is most prominent. Now you can use the presets in the left panel for quick results or drag the sliders manually for more precision. Drag the "Overall Strength" slider a few units (0.03 to 0.05) at a time until the graininess is  gone.  If you see colour noise (in the form of purple, green and blue blobs), use the "Clean Color" slider. Use this one to your ability just to the point where all the colour noise is gone.  If something goes wrong, you can use the sliders in the "Detail Recovery". Click the OK button after you’re satisfied with the end result. Click Ok will take you back to IrfanView where your result will be displayed.

Next step is to boost the colour and contrast.  Use the keyboard shortcut "Shift+W" to fit the image to the Window for a complete view of the image. Go to "Image | Color corrections" or use the shortcut "Ctrl+G" to bring up the colour corrections dialogue box. Use the Contrast and Saturation sliders to add punch to your photo if it looks too drab; a slight boost should make it look more vibrant. If the photo is under-exposed, use the "Brightness" and "Gamma correction" sliders to correct the exposure. Click the OK button to apply the values to the photo.

Now you are done with the tinkering bit its time to take a final copy of the photo.  If you like it the way it is then there is no problem but if you want to rescale it to a size you would like or feel that the photo would appear more beautiful use the  go to "Image | Custom/fine rotation" and specify the rotation angle. The preview should help determining the optimal correction. Negative values will rotate the frame anticlockwise and positive values clockwise. Decimal values can be used for fine rotation. Use the Crop function to eliminate the redundant areas after rotation or to extract a portion of the frame. Click and drag to select the area you wish to crop, and then use the shortcut "Ctrl+Y" or go to "Edit | Crop selection" to crop out the selection

You may want to rescale the photo to lower resolution to reduce the file size or share the photo via facebook, Google Plus or email. To do so, go to "Image | Resize/resample" or use the shortcut "Ctrl+R" to bring up the dialogue box. Set the new size (in pixels or percentage) and click the OK button to apply the changes you desire.

You can use the above procedure to correct photos taken on digital camera also.   If you do everything right you will be surprised at the result and now call your self a full fledged professional camera man that to without using the Photoshop or Instagram.  Try this one out and post me the results and your comments.

BITCOIN the new age money, myth or reality, let us see how the mining works

My bet is you have heard of a online currency called Bitcoin.  The Bitcoin is a virtual money with no regulations and interest rates.  It has its own exchange market in form of MtGox.  The Bitcoins are not earned, they are mined meaning you put your machines into some sort of pool to solve complex mathematical calculations.  If you are lucky your pool is awarded Bitcoins which are then distributed among your pool.

Along new operating system come the new shortcuts.  The new BB10 OS users must be wondering how to take screen shot of their mobile screen page to share with their friends for showing off or troubleshooting.  The BB10 shortcut is the most easiest of them all.  You just have to press the Volume up and Volume down keys simultaneously for a few seconds.  The minute you here the camera go click, the screen shot has been taken.  You can find the image in the recents folder of your pictures App, where you can edit, forward, share and delete it as you please.

If you are a Indian citizen then you perhaps know the importance of PAN card.  The PAN (Permanent Account Number) is a must for applying in any Government department.  Whether for bank account, driving licence or for Aadhaar Card.  Now if you want the PAN card number in a hurry what do you do?  Easy, go to this site fill in your details and you will get your PAN Card number online.  Older PAN cards issued by Income Tax department (the white coloured ones) are not available at the site but the new card issued by the UTISSL are available.
